Dumpster Rental Hidden Fees: What to Ask Before You Book

The complaint we hear most about other dumpster companies is not the price. It is the invoice that did not match the quote. Base rate looked good on the phone, then delivery was separate, then a fuel surcharge appeared, then an environmental fee nobody mentioned. Here is what can legitimately add to a dumpster bill, what should never appear on one, and the questions to ask before you hand over a card.

What Can Legitimately Add to Your Bill?

Three things, and all three are within your control.

Weight over 2 tons. $100 per ton, prorated. Every bin includes 2 tons regardless of size. Dense material — shingles, tile, plaster — gets there fastest. Weight limits covers which loads to watch.

Extra days. $25 per day past the end of your rental period. Book the right period up front and this never comes up.

Prohibited items. Anything on the restricted list has to be separated and disposed of properly, and that costs money to handle. The list is short and it is on our disposal guide.

What Should Never Be a Separate Line?

• Delivery — it is part of the service, not an add-on

• Pickup — same

• Disposal — hauling it away is the entire point

• Driveway protection — boards come standard on every bin

• Fuel surcharges — fuel is a cost of doing business, not a line item

If a quote is low because those are unbundled, it is not actually low. It is just incomplete.

Five Questions to Ask Before You Book

1. What is the total, delivered and hauled? One number. If they cannot give you one, that is the answer.

2. How much weight is included, and what does overage cost? This is the single biggest variable between companies. A cheaper base with one ton included is not cheaper.

3. How many days, and what does an extra day cost? Rental periods vary. A three-day quote and a seven-day quote are different products.

4. Does the bin sit on driveway protection? Not every company does this. Repairing a gouged driveway costs multiples of the rental.

5. What can't go in it? Every company has a restricted list. Knowing it in advance prevents an item being pulled and billed later.

Why the Overfilled Bin Is the Real Risk

The costliest outcome is not a fee at all — it is a bin we cannot take. A load stacked above the rail cannot legally be transported. When that happens, the truck leaves, you unload the excess, and the pickup gets rescheduled. That costs you a day at minimum.

Booking Season Matters Too

Not a fee, but it costs you. Spring and fall cleanup seasons book out, and so does the stretch after a major hail storm when every roofer in El Paso County needs bins at once. Reserving a few days ahead gets you the date you want. Calling the morning you need it, during the second week of June after a storm, may not.

Are there hidden fees on a dumpster rental?

There should not be. Ours covers delivery, pickup, disposal and 2 tons in one flat number. Only weight overage, extra days and prohibited items can add to it.

Is delivery charged separately?

Not by us. Delivery, pickup and disposal are all included in the quoted price.

What if I keep the dumpster longer than planned?

$25 per day past the rental period. If the timeline is uncertain, booking a longer period up front is usually cheaper.

What happens if I overfill the bin?

We cannot transport a load stacked above the rail. You will need to remove the excess and we will reschedule the pickup. Load level and it is a non-issue.
