Quick Answer: Not if it's placed right. Damage comes from direct metal-on-surface contact and concentrated weight, both of which are avoidable. Every Bin There Dump That rental includes driveway protection under the bin and a magnet and broom sweep after pickup.
- • Boards go down before the bin does
- • Magnet sweep catches nails and screws after pickup
- • Tell us your driveway type when you book — it changes placement
Most people don't ask about driveway damage when they call. They think it while they're looking at the driveway, decide it's probably fine, and book anyway. It's worth two minutes.
What actually causes damage
Two main things. Metal resting directly on the surface, and weight concentrated in a small area rather than spread across it. A bin on boards distributes the load. A bin set straight down on hot asphalt does not.
Almost everything people worry about — cracking, gouging, staining — traces back to one of those two.

Your driveway type matters
Asphalt softens in summer heat, so mid-July placement needs more care than October. Concrete handles weight well once cured, but concrete poured within the last year is still gaining strength. Pavers and decorative surfaces are the ones to flag when you book, since they can shift under concentrated load.
None of these rule out a dumpster. They change how we place it.
The part after pickup
A roofing tear-off sheds nails. A deck demo sheds screws. They end up on the driveway no matter how carefully you load, and you usually find them later with a tire.
So every pickup ends with a magnet sweep for metal and a broom sweep for the rest. When the truck pulls away, there shouldn't be evidence a bin was ever there.
What helps
Clear the spot before delivery, move vehicles, and mention anything unusual about the surface when you book. Steep slope, fresh sealcoat, new pour, pavers — all worth thirty seconds on the phone.
