Recommended size options:

9-Yard Bin
The 9-yard bin is ideal for clearing out clutter from your garage, basement, or spare room. At just 7 feet wide, it’s especially useful in tight driveways or downtown Halifax properties where space is limited.
It holds about 4 pickup truck loads—perfect for a few furniture items, small appliances, and general household junk.
Bin dimensions: 9 ft long × 7 ft wide × 4 ft high

14-Yard Bin
The 14-yard bin is great when you’ve got a lot to purge—full-home cleanouts and bulky furniture items. It has the same footprint as our 20-yard bin, but with lower walls (4.5 ft high) that make it easier to toss items over the side.
It holds about 5 pickup truck loads, making it a perfect option for larger projects without being oversized.
Bin dimensions: 11 ft long × 8 ft wide × 4.5 ft high

20-Yard Bin
Our largest and most popular size, the 20-yard bin is perfect for decluttering an entire home before a move and full-home cleanouts. With tall 6-foot sides, it can handle bulky furniture, old mattresses, appliances, and all the things you didn’t even know you had.
It holds about 8 pickup truck loads and still fits in a single parking space.
Bin dimensions: 11 ft long × 8 ft wide × 6 ft high

Frequently Asked Questions
Bins rented for landfill waste are meant for general household junk—things like old furniture, broken toys, worn-out clothes, or anything else you’d normally throw away.
Check out our disposal guide for more details.
The landfill does not accept construction or renovation materials (like drywall, wood, tile), recyclables (cardboard, bottles, etc.), or anything hazardous (chemicals, batteries, propane tanks, etc.).
Check out our disposal guide for more details.
Yes, most household appliances like stoves, washers, dryers, and dishwashers can go in dumpsters. Just remember, appliances with freon (like fridges and dehumidifiers) need special handling and aren’t accepted unless the freon is removed. The city offers free freon removal from appliances—just have them tag it, then you can leave it out on your garbage day or put it in your bin.
No sorting required. Just make sure everything fits inside the bin and the doors can close properly. Try to spread heavy items out evenly. If all the weight’s on one side, the bin could come off the lift during pickup.
You can bag items if you want, or you can throw items straight in the bin. If you do bag, black or clear bags are fine, there’s no limit on how many black bags you use. Just don’t use cardboard boxes, they’re not allowed.
We won’t know the exact weight until we get to the dump, but a full 9-yard bin is often around 1 tonne; while a 14 or 20-yard bin is usually closer to 2 or 3 tonnes.
Weight depends on material type and how full the bin is. If you’re not sure what to expect, we’re happy to help you estimate based on your project.
